Hanford is famous for its ponies, of all sizes, ages and shapes, but suitable to provide safe fun for children at all levels of ability and experience. Riding is an extra enjoyed by almost all the children, a number of whom would not otherwise have the opportunity of doing so. There is an indoor riding school, an outdoor arena and a jumping paddock. Children may be taken on rides out into the surrounding countryside.
In the Summer term children are taken onto the hills for early morning rides before breakfast. Many of the children choose to look after the ponies in their spare time, and at weekends often help to organize small jumping or dressage competitions.
