Art

Art is taught by Mrs. Lucy Yarwood and Mrs. Denise Curtis; the house, animals and surrounding countryside are used as sources of inspiration and the aim of the art syllabus is to instil a love of the subject. As a result of this Hanford is full of lively vibrant art displays.

Creativity and imagination are developed through a variety of skills, including drawing, painting, print-making, textiles, sculpture and pottery and children are encouraged to draw in their free time. They may also attend "Art Club" at weekends.

Mrs. Curtis, who is responsible for teaching pottery, also takes Handwork as a separate subject. The girls love making their own clothes here and all learn to use a sewing machine.

We have spacious work areas comprising a painting studio, a well equipped pottery and a sewing room which contains modern sewing machines including an overlocker.

Senior girls also have one lesson a week of "Art Appre" with Mrs. Françoise Witheridge.
